The older foundation here is the first-generation Intel Xeon Scalable platform, while the new model already uses the third-generation Intel Xeon Scalable platform. This generational leap is not cosmetic. It's a difference in efficiency and how much further you can push the server with additional components.
The specific unit on offer has approximately 10,274 PassMark points, so it is certainly not a server that would only be usable for "end of life". If you need a server for virtualization, databases, email, and a typical corporate mix of services, it is still a configuration that offers a very solid ratio between acquisition price and performance.
