On paper, the answer looks simple. The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 is newer, more efficient, and architecturally more advanced. But when I compare it to the specific HP ProLiant DL380 G9 from our offer, priced at CZK 5,980, the whole comparison makes much more practical sense. The configuration "HP ProLiant DL380 G9 2U Rack Server - Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3, 192GB RAM" clearly shows why a refurbished server is still a worthwhile investment today.

With HP, it doesn't make sense to jump straight to the latest marketing hype. I consider the Gen10 a more honest reference, because it is still commercially relevant in April 2026 and much closer to real business demand than the latest generation.

The configuration you are actually buying

This consideration is not based on a general server type, but on a specific item from the offer. That's why it makes sense to stick to the real configuration "2U Rack Server - Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3, 192GB RAM" and not just compare catalog maximums against catalog maximums.

Technical comparison side-by-side

The table combines a specific stock configuration of a refurbished unit with the model options of both platforms. For ports, power supplies, drive bays, and PCIe slots, it always depends on the exact chassis and risers, so consider the values as a practical purchasing overview, not as the only possible configuration.

Architecture and practical performance

To be fair, it's important to state one thing: the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 is based on a newer architecture. The older server uses the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 platform, while the new model already features the first-generation Intel Xeon Scalable platform, thus offering greater technological headroom for years to come.

The specific unit on offer scores approximately 16,037 PassMark points, so it's certainly not a server that would only be suitable for "end of life." I'm not saying the newer model isn't faster. It is. I'm just pointing out that in everyday operation for virtualization, database tasks, and common corporate infrastructure, overall equipment often matters more than the generational label itself.

Price, RAM, and drives in 2026

For me, the entire comparison hinges on money. CZK 5,980 for a ready-to-use HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is an amount that still seems very attractive today. The price already includes 192 GB of RAM, something that can very quickly inflate the budget for a new server. And because memory and drives remain expensive in April 2026, a refurbished setup can surprisingly be a strong business argument in the end.

The HPE DL380 series is a classic wherever a stable 2U platform and predictable service life are needed. Therefore, the HP ProLiant DL380 G9 should not be evaluated solely by its release year, but by the work it actually needs to do and how much you're willing to pay for it.

Verdict for price-sensitive demand

If I were choosing a server for a budget-constrained project today, I would unhesitatingly consider the HP ProLiant DL380 G9 for virtualization, database tasks, and common business infrastructure. However, if you are building a platform for a longer horizon, focusing on performance per watt, official support, and room for further growth, the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 makes more sense.
