New Life Mac has stocked up on a large batch of refurbished workstation barebone computers: Dell Precision, HP Z, and Lenovo ThinkStation. In total, there are 102 units divided into 25 product cards and 49 processor variants.

Important from the start: these are not complete, finished computers. They are barebone assemblies with a processor. You get the chassis, motherboard, power supply, cooling, and one or two Xeons depending on the chosen variant. RAM, HDD/SSD, dedicated graphics card, and operating system are not included.

Why these barebone workstations are interesting

A refurbished workstation is not just an ordinary office box. These platforms were designed for long-term load, serviceability, stable power, and expandability. That's why they make sense as an affordable foundation for your own build: you add RAM, SSD/HDD, and a graphics card according to your budget and specific use case.

How to choose: a simple guide

I want a cheap base and will build it gradually

Look at the more affordable HP Z220/Z230/Z420, Dell Precision T1650/T1700, or older dual CPU HP Z600. They are suitable for testing, home labs, older workstation tasks, or building a cheaper PC with a used graphics card.

I want a versatile tower for GPU and modern upgrade

The most interesting all-rounder from the entire batch is the Dell Precision 5810. It has a large stock, DDR4 platform, Xeon E5 v3/v4, and space for a full-sized graphics card. Lenovo ThinkStation P410/P510 or HP Z640 also make sense.

I want a small case

For compact setups, there are SFF models HP Z240 SFF, Lenovo ThinkStation P310 SFF, and Lenovo ThinkStation P320 SFF. Just be aware: for SFF computers, you need to choose a low-profile graphics card and monitor power consumption.

I want as many cores as possible

For computations, virtualization, rendering, or more demanding workstation use, there are dual CPU cards like Dell Precision T7810 DUAL CPU, HP Z640 DUAL CPU, or HP Z840 DUAL CPU. The highest variant on offer goes up to 2× Xeon E5-2697 v4, which means 36 cores / 72 threads.

What you will need to add

Each unit is a barebone. Before use, you should expect to add compatible operating memory, SSD/HDD, and, depending on the use, a graphics card. For processors without integrated graphics, a dedicated graphics card is necessary even for display. The operating system is not included.

The price range for the entire batch is currently CZK 1,300 – CZK 11,250 depending on the model and processor variant. Stock levels are limited to individual units, so some configurations will disappear faster than others.
