The Dell BOSS-S1 (3JT49) is a boot controller/system disk, designed specifically for Dell (PowerEdge) servers as Boot Optimized Server Storage.

Host interface : PCIe (controller is inserted via PCIe bus) — specifically, the card uses an x8 slot (PCIe 2.0)

Height/profile : Low profile card

Supported disks : 2 × M.2 SATA SSD (6 Gb/s)
Maximum number of disks : 2 (for RAID / non-RAID)
RAID levels : The manufacturer lists RAID 1 (mirroring) as the default option; you cannot create more than 1 virtual disk.
Non-RAID (passthrough) support : Yes — disks without a RAID layer can also be used → each disk separately.
Stripe size : The default stripe size is 64 KB.
Disk cache / non-volatile cache : The card does not have a non-volatile cache or battery backup power.
TRIM support : In non-RAID mode, the TRIM command is supported (for SSDs)
Systems / firmware / utility support : Management via BIOS / UEFI configurator, CLI in OS, firmware can be updated via iDRAC / Lifecycle Controller.
Compatibility : Used in Dell PowerEdge servers (e.g. R640, R740 and others) as an internal controller for OS disks.
