DELL Precision 5810 CAD Bundle | CPU choice, 32GB DDR4, 256GB SSD, Quadro K4200
An assembled and tested workstation, not a kit. A Dell Precision 5810 with 32 GB of ECC memory, professional NVIDIA Quadro graphics and an SSD — it arrives built and verified, all you add is the operating system. Your choice of processor decides how much compute you pay for: from 10 cores up to 18 cores with 36 threads.
The build targets workloads where thread count decides the outcome — rendering, simulation, compilation, video editing, virtualisation, CAD and 3D modelling. ECC memory means a multi-hour computation isn't brought down by a single flipped bit.
Compute performance — choosing the processor
| Processor | Cores / threads | Clock | PassMark CPU Mark | Single-thread | TDP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xeon E5-2687W V3 | 10 / 20 | 3.1 – 3.5 GHz | 14,365 | 1,921 | 160 W |
| Xeon E5-2697 V3 | 14 / 28 | 2.6 – 3.6 GHz | 18,171 | 1,967 | 145 W |
| Xeon E5-2699 V3 | 18 / 36 | 2.3 – 3.6 GHz | 20,019 | 1,876 | 145 W |
| Xeon E5-2697 V4 | 18 / 36 | 2.3 – 3.6 GHz | 21,342 | 2,037 | 145 W |
How to choose. The E5-2687W V3 has the highest base clock and suits work where the software doesn't scale across many threads — older CAD kernels, single-threaded simulation, modelling. The E5-2697 V3 is the most balanced option: 14 cores while keeping a 3.6 GHz turbo. The E5-2699 V3 and E5-2697 V4 add 36 threads for rendering, compilation and virtualisation; the V4 also runs memory at 2400 MT/s and has the best single-thread performance in the range — so you don't have to choose between width and responsiveness.
Memory and how it grows
| Installed | 32 GB — 2× 16 GB SK hynix DDR4-2400 ECC RDIMM 2Rx4 |
|---|---|
| Configuration | Dual channel, roughly 34 GB/s (38 GB/s with the E5-2697 V4) |
| Actual frequency | 2133 MT/s with the V3 series, 2400 MT/s with the E5-2697 V4 |
| Slots used | 2 of 8 — six slots stay free |
| Platform maximum | 256 GB (8× 32 GB ECC RDIMM) |
Growing it is cheap. Adding two identical modules gives you 64 GB and, at the same time, quad-channel operation — memory bandwidth doubles to roughly 68 GB/s. Four more modules take you to 96 GB, and swapping in 32 GB modules reaches 256 GB. All of it without changing the board, power supply or cooling. For everyday CAD and development work 32 GB is enough; for large scenes, point clouds or several virtual machines at once we recommend buying the second pair straight away.
Graphics
| GPU | NVIDIA Quadro K4200, 1344 CUDA cores |
|---|---|
| Memory | 4 GB GDDR5, 256-bit bus, 173 GB/s |
| FP32 performance | approximately 2.1 TFLOPS |
| Outputs | 1× DVI-I + 2× DisplayPort 1.2, up to four displays |
| Power draw | 105 W, single-slot design |
The Quadro K series has certified drivers for CAD and CAE applications and CUDA for GPU acceleration in renderers and compute libraries. For modern gaming or AI workloads plan on swapping in a newer card — the free PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and the workstation power supply will carry it without trouble.
Platform and expandability
| Model | Dell Precision Tower 5810, 1× LGA2011-3, Intel C612 chipset |
|---|---|
| PCIe slots | 2× PCIe 3.0 x16, 1× PCIe 3.0 x8, 1× PCIe 2.0 x4, 1× PCIe 2.0 x1, 1× PCI 2.3 |
| Storage | 2× internal 3.5” SATA bay, 1× external 5.25”, 1× slim optical; NVMe via PCIe adapter |
| Power supply | Workstation PSU, 425 W or 685 W depending on the unit |
| Network | Integrated Gigabit Ethernet |
What's included
- Dell Precision 5810 with the Intel Xeon processor you select
- 32 GB of ECC memory — 2× 16 GB SK hynix DDR4-2400 RDIMM 2Rx4
- NVIDIA Quadro K4200 4 GB GDDR5
- Patriot P210 256 GB SATA III SSD
- Assembled, wired and tested before dispatch
What's not included — and why
Operating system, keyboard, mouse and monitor. We leave out the OS on purpose: most companies have their own volume licences, and paying again for an OEM licence you're going to overwrite makes no sense — you don't pay for it in the price of the machine. The workstation is ready for a clean install of Windows 10/11 Pro or any Linux distribution; Dell drivers for this platform are still available.
Condition
Refurbished / used equipment from corporate use. Every build is assembled and tested before dispatch. Normal cosmetic signs of use may be present without affecting function. Photographs are illustrative for the model and the components fitted.
PassMark is an indicative comparative score from the CPU Benchmark database, retrieved 17 September 2026. Memory bandwidth is the theoretical maximum of the controller. Real-world performance depends on cooling, BIOS, operating system and the specific workload.
