How to choose. 2× E5-2687W V2 offers 16 cores with turbo up to 4 GHz — the choice for mixed load where part of the work runs single-threaded (modelling, development, interactive work) and part scales out. 2× E5-2697 V2 gives 24 cores and 48 threads at lower total power — the most parallel performance this platform can deliver, and the best choice for a render farm, batch processing and virtualisation, where thread count directly determines how many machines or jobs run at once.

For virtualisation the decisive figure is the ratio of threads to memory: 48 threads and 64 GB works out at roughly 12 to 16 smaller virtual machines. If you are aiming higher, topping up to 128 GB is a matter of four modules and five minutes — board, power supply and cooling stay as they are.

What's not included — and why
Operating system, keyboard, mouse and monitor. We leave out the OS on purpose: most companies have their own volume licences, and paying again for an OEM licence you're going to overwrite makes no sense — you don't pay for it in the price of the machine. On a dual-processor workstation you are also likely to run Linux or a hypervisor. Ready for a clean install of Windows 10/11 Pro, Linux or Proxmox.
Condition
Refurbished / used equipment from corporate use. Every build is assembled and tested before dispatch. Normal cosmetic signs of use may be present without affecting function. Photographs are illustrative for the model and the components fitted.
